In Secondary, the core subjects of English, mathematics and the sciences continue to follow the British Curriculum, and these subject areas are built upon with the International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC).

Designed by the International Curriculum Association, the International Middle Years Curriculum continues with a thematic approach to learning across different subject disciplines. This engaging curriculum ensures that learning is relevant and meaningful to students in Lower Secondary. It highlights the way in which different subject areas are interconnected; helping students recognise that what we learn in one area can benefit or support our learning in another.

The IMYC is unique in its approach to educating teenagers. Grounded in research about the adolescent brain, it recognises that this age group experiences significant cognitive, emotional, and social changes. With this in mind, we aim to teach students about the world around them, and about their own individual needs.

The combination of these two outstanding international curricula helps us to offer a holistic learning experience to our students, and one that affords them a choice of where they will continue their studies.

Our mathematics and science curriculum is currently being reviewed and developed. Our aim is to create an engaging STEM curriculum (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) that highlights the interconnectedness of these subject disciplines. We are excited about this process, and confident that these changes will raise the profile of STEM subjects and develop student engagement.

Gabe, Year 8 Student

I LOVE the learning that’s on offer at TradeWinds Academy, because it makes me feel valued and free.  The IMYC curriculum has made a big difference in my learning, such as expanding my knowledge of the world and providing interesting topics that I love to learn about.

The IMYC Programme has many advantages for the students at TradeWinds Academy.
For me in particular, it has helped me link my learning between history and geography, and also to think about the world around me, and not just what we learn about in class.
